Is Detroit now America’s safest city?
Maybe.
In the last week, three different Detroit residents have used their guns to fire at home invaders. The toll after seven days: Two dead, one wounded, four arrested and a whole lot of people having to rethink the whole idea that Detroit homeowners are soft targets for hardened criminals
The latest case of lethal self defense happened early Saturday morning.
“Two men broke into a home armed with a tire iron,” reported the ABC affiliate in Detroit. “The intruders tried to knock out the homeowner, but the homeowner fired back with his gun. He shot them both and killed one of them, a 21-year-old man. The other man got away.”
Just a few hours before that, a home invader tried their luck with a woman pulling into her driveway. “A man with a gun appeared out of nowhere. She dropped her keys on the ground as a distraction and then reached for her own gun and shot and killed him.”
The third case, about a week ago, was captured on video. Three black people stormed a home and found a mother inside with her children — and assault rifle.
“I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house,” the mom told WXYZ News. “They challenged me and said I don’t have a gun. That’s when I shot the first round.”
And that is when the three suspects ran — on video. She missed. Police arrested the three suspects soon after.
The shootings came after years of Detroit building a reputation as one of the most dangerous big cities in America. With its local government in chaos, the police department in turmoil, and residents feeling more and more in danger, the city leaders got at least one thing right:
In June, they hired James Craig to be the new Chief of Police. Craig promised change. And he apparently meant it: He has been telling citizens they need to protect themselves with guns.
Because the police cannot.
The Detroit News warily reported it: “Craig made national news earlier this month after he told The Detroit News he’d changed his mind about the gun issue, and came to the conclusion that armed citizens could dissuade criminals from attacking them — a rarity among urban police chiefs, who generally don’t publicly support citizens’ right to carry firearms.”
Local criticism to the idea was present, but muted: Even the liberals moved out of Detroit long ago.
But in San Francisco, Robyn Thomas, director of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in San Francisco, however, criticized Craig’s new policy as being dangerous and emotional.
But the only thing heard in Detroit is more calls for more of the same. “I think it is just a matter of the individual homeowners protecting themselves,” said deputy chief Rodney Johnson. “They are finally catching up with the criminals. Enough is enough and they are not going to take it anymore.”

A Dayton bus driver is in the hospital today with injuries suffered during a form of black mob violence called a “polar bear attack.”
Police say the bus driver is lucky to be alive after three black “teenagers” stabbed and shot him during the attack. Only the presence of a bible over the bus driver’s heart stopped the two bullets and allowed him to fight off a knife attack from his assailants.
One additional bullet struck the driver in the leg, where he was also stabbed.
The attack came Monday morning at 5:30 when the driver stopped his bus because of mechanical difficulties. “As he was outside of the bus assessing how to fix the problem, the three suspects came up to him and said they had to “shoot a polar bear,” police told WHIO news. “The bullets did not penetrate into the victim’s chest. There was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident because he (the driver) should probably not be here,” said Dayton Police Sgt. Michael Pauley.
However willing police are to talk about the theology of the attack, a spokesman for the Dayton police department will not comment any further on the shooting and stabbing other than to confirm he knows what a polar bear hunting attack is.
“Police said the suspects are three young, black males, possibly between the ages of 15 to 18 years old,” said WHIO.
Polar bear hunting is one type of black mob violence directed at white people, i.e. Polar bears. It is documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence and How the Media Ignore it.
The term originated at the University of Illinois in Champaign and is a form of the Knockout Game: At Salon magazine, a Champaign resident described it:
“ For the past several years, we have had an onslaught of groups of young black men assaulting white men at random,” said Esteban Moberley. “They ambushed and beat students on the campus and people in their own yards. These victims were not typically robbed, just ambushed and beaten senseless. They beat up our weatherman in one incident.”
After more than a dozen Polar Bear attacks directed at white people in Champaign, The local News Gazette came clean: The weatherman was the latest in a growing list of “white men in town being slugged for sport by young black men” .. that has been dubbed “Polar Bear hunting.”

Squatting for Black History Month
Free homes. Free license plates. Free everything. That is the plan of the black separatist group called Moorish Nation.

You may have missed this chapter in Black History Month: In 1787, a bunch of people signed a bunch of agreements — secret and otherwise — that say black people are not required to obey American laws because they are not really citizens of the United States.
Today, members of the Moorish Nation claim this entitles black people to move into empty houses (don’t call it squatting!), create their own license plates, issue their own drivers licenses, print their own property titles and claim sovereign immunity when they get arrested.
All without success. But they keep trying all over the country.
Moorish Nation made its biggest national impression last March, when Abka Re Bey and her six children moved into a $3 million, 10,000 square-foot mansion in Memphis. Abka Re Bey — whose given name is Tabitha Gentry — even filed paperwork with the local Register of Deeds saying she was taking ownership of the property “in the name of Allah, the most high,” said NewsOne, a TV network “for Black America.”
The Washington Post, CBS News and others neglected to mention the religious connection to Islam in their reports on these racially separate squatters.
Abka Re Bey stayed in the mansion a week before the SWAT team came and took her away for trespassing, burglary and theft. “She’s Moorish-American,” said Jarrod Batts to Action News in Memphis after her arraignment. “Why y’all saying she’s a squatter?”
The Washington Post tracked down two officials who say this group is responsible for a lot of mayhem that never makes the newspapers: “I can promise you that every state has had their challenges with these guys,” said Carol Foglesong, a land records official in Orange County, Fla., and past president the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks.
Kory Flowers also talked to the Post: “It’s going on in every state,” said Flowers, an investigator with the Greensboro, N.C., police and a national expert on sovereign groups. In Bethesda three months later, three members of the Moorish Nation tried the same thing when they moved into a $6 million house with 12 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms and two saunas.
When police showed up to haul them off, they said they were members of “the Moorish Nation and had the right to claim the property,” said the local sheriff. In Tampa Bay, police found Zuri Akila Betiti Matawala Zurj-Bey, a grand sheikess in the Moorish Temple of Science of the World, driving with an usual set of license plates: “Moorish American Republic 070117-004.”
That didn’t work out too well either. “I’ve been kidnapped,” she told the Tampa Bay Times in December 2012 at the Pasco County jail where she was incarcerated for a variety of traffic offenses. “I don’t belong here. When you belong to another government, you’re not subject to someone else’s rules and laws. I’m just a missionary. This is a misunderstanding.”
That misunderstanding continues today in Wilmington, Delaware, where they had a lot to choose from: 1,387 of that city’s 22,576 homes are empty. And that does not count houses for sale.
Last month Moorish Nation struck again. And not for the first time in this city of 72,000. This time they invaded a large home on the tree-lined, once majestic and now slightly worn Baynard Boulevard. “They just moved in liked they owned the place,” said Ralph Malatesta, the next door neighbor. “That’s what they said to me anyway and I believed them. A few of them look like they just got out of prison.” A SWAT team ended that soon after. “There were a lot of kids in there too,” Malatesta said.
The Moorish Nation is hardly the only black separatist group in America. On July 1, Chokwe Lumumba was sworn in as Mayor of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi. He is a former leader of a group called the Republic of New Afrika that seeks to turn the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina into an independent black nation.
Even Al Jazeera was impressed: The network called Lumumba “America’s most revolutionary mayor.” “Free the Land” is the group’s slogan. In his inauguration address, one of the first things Lumumba did was raise his hand in a clenched fist and proclaim to loud applause from 2500 people: “Free the Land.”
Neither is Moorish Nation the only group of black people squatting. In Detroit in February, a homeowner gone for a few days returned to find her neighbors had moved in, stolen her property, eaten her food, and turned her home into their chill pad where they could use drugs.
Adrea Isom of Fox News in Detroit could hardly contain her incredulity when speaking to the family and friends of the squatters: “Three men had helped themselves to all of her gin and her Seagram’s happy juice,” said Isom. “They cooked up crab legs, shrimp and they even had a turkey in the oven, can you believe it? And while they were fixing their feast they she says they were high as a kite on the chronic.”
Two of the suspects lived next door. The locals were unapologetic and blamed the owner for leaving the house unguarded: “It was like a chill spot,” said one neighbor. “Somebody going to invite you over to smoke some weed and we right next door. Somebody was squatting in that house, the guy that was in there was squatting already, so he was inviting people over, because he was living there.”
“This is Detroit and we will come squat in your house if you’re not home,” said one of the neighbors who also offered the homeowner a few words of advice: “Stay in your home before your copper come up missing.”

I guess I need to get out more: I was one of those people who used to think Iowa was some kind of Kevin Costner fantasy of a bucolic life and checkered table cloths and apple pie.
Add racial violence to the list: Beat Whitey Night — that was in Iowa. A mob of 20 kill a Des Moines father. That was last year.
And now from Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, we get news of two Knockout Attacks against students.

Here’s an excerpt:
“No one else was around me. I figured it was just kind of an awkward coincidence. ‘I thought I’m just freaking myself out’,” Behnke said. “When I noticed that the car was driving slowly on the road to my left, I heard footsteps behind me. I figured it was probably just someone out that had been drinking.”
Behnke said that he continued walking and even sped up, but the suspect — whom Behnke described as a 6-foot-tall African American male with dreadlocks — continued to closely follow him.
“I turned and looked at him to just kind of make eye contact. He stayed behind me pretty close but he never jogged in front of me. At one point in time I even stopped to let him pass and get in front of me, but he just stood there,” Behnke said.
Behnke said he was on the sidewalk outside of Es Tas Bar and Grill when the man punched him on the left side of his head near his temple, knocking Behnke to the ground.
“Right after he punched me I was able to pick myself back up and watch him get back in the car. At the time I had adrenaline pumping so it didn’t hurt as bad as I thought it would,” Behnke said. “He definitely hit me a lot harder than I thought he did.”
Behnke said the next day at work he had a severe headache and told his boss what had happened to him the night before. Behnke’s boss drove him to the police station to file a report and then to the emergency room where Behnke was diagnosed with a concussion.
“I was in the ER and my nurse came in, and she had a puzzled face and she asked ‘what exactly happened to you again? You’re not the only person here today that had the same thing happen,'” Behnke said.

Black mob violence relentless and fatal: Even during Black History Month.It just won’t stop. A smattering of recent violence.

It just won’t stop, this black on white crime. Not even during Black History Month. And it is becoming increasingly fatal.
This time Baton Rouge, again: This time another old white dude is dead. His name is John Bannon. The 53-year sports fan moved to Baton Rouge from his native Indiana so he could be close to his beloved LSU Tigers football team.
And his Harley too: He kept it in his living room because he did not have a garage. Can’t do much Harley-riding in Indiana in the winter.
It was 9:30 on a Friday night in early February. Bannon was a few blocks from his home when witnesses say he encountered the 19-year old Windall Lavel Herring and a 15-year old accomplice. They punched him in the face. His head hit the ground. He lingered for a few weeks, then died.
The Advocate in Baton Rouge says the two teens attacked Bannon in an attempted robbery, or to see who could hit harder or possibly for another reason, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
Like lots of other victims of black on white crime, Bannon had a family. And yes, they are trying to figure out why their grandfather, father, brother, uncle and friend is dead.
This is hardly the first black on white violent attack in Baton Rouge. Last May, a black mob attacked a white family that had stopped for gas at a convenience store near a freeway.
The police report describes how one of the attackers “approached the white male victim. The defendant told him he was in the wrong neighborhood and he was not going to make it out.” The victim said that’s when he “was punched and knocked to the ground.”
His wife got out of the car and ran to help her husband. “He continued to struggle with the defendant and was eventually knocked unconscious.” His wife told police, “after running to help her husband, she remembers falling to the ground and (being) knocked unconscious.”
Then they beat the couple’s teenager daughter. The man suffered a broken eye socket, a broken nose and several cuts on the face.
February has been a busy month for black on white violence around the country. Some fatal. A smattering of violence from the last month:
A few days before the attack on Bannon, a group of black people attacked, stabbed and robbed an 86-year old veteran at him home in Chickasaw, Alabama. Like Bannon, he lingered for a few days, then died. Three black people with long criminal histories have been charged in connection with the attack.
These are in addition to other recent black mob assaults around the country. In Stamford, Conn., a black mob attacked a school administrator and left him with a broken neck and other injuries. In Detroit, a father and son and one other person were tortured and killed and robbed. Then set on fire. Four black people have been arrested.
In Philadelphia, police released a video of five black people who stabbed and robbed a convenience store owner: He lived. This is just one of several robberies of convenience stores caught on video in the Philadelphia area in the same week.
In Minneapolis, 69-year old Thomas Sonnenberg thought he was helping a black man and his girl friend escape from people who were trying to hurt him. They shot him instead. He died.
In New Orleans, a group of black people ambushed a bike rider and hit him in the face with an aluminum bat. They fractured his skull. This was the second such attack that evening in that area. The first victim suffered a shattered jaw and missing teeth. They lived.
In St. Petersburg, three bicyclists were attacked over a one week period on a popular bike trail. They lived. All the suspects are black.
In St. Cloud, Minnesota, Jesse Smithers received a ten year sentence after pleading guilty in the killing of Colton Gleason. Smithers was part of a group of six black people who stopped a car, got out and attacked Gleason. Smithers will be eligible for release in five years. Lots of Gleason’s friends still cannot get over it and they remember him on a Facebook page.
In Brooklyn, the site of widespread attention for the dozens of examples of black mob violence directed against Orthodox Jews — many documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It – the latest case of the Knockout Game received scant notice outside of the Jewish press. But the Israel National News covered it:
“A young yeshiva student was attacked as he was on his way home. He was attacked just a few feet from the entrance to his home. He struck the Jewish man several times on his head, without saying a word, the student said later. Eventually the student lost consciousness and fell down on the sidewalk. He regained consciousness to find himself lying face down on the cold sidewalk. Amazingly, his attacker was still there.”
In a suburb of Indianapolis, police are looking for “four black males who got out of a white SUV and started knocking on windows and doors, trying to get inside” a car belonging to Kyle Jobin. They shot him dead.
In Macon, Georgia, 30 black people assaulted five white people, including a mother and infant. They lived. One of the TV news stations called it “a fight.” One of the locals said race had nothing to do with it: ““People get jumped everyday,” said Jon’Shea JS Jenkins on his Facebook page. “ The fact that there white means nothing.”
In Baltimore, two black people are under arrest for killing Kimberly Leto with a knife during a burglary. One of the suspects was charged with the burglary six months before in the same house. Just a few days before Leto’s death, an editor for the Baltimore Sun was assaulted in the same neighborhood. His skull is fractured. Ten teeth missing. One black man arrested. John Fogg will live. Probably.
In Cleveland, a black mob attacked a disabled army veteran. They first saw him on a bus, then followed him when when left it. They kicked him, punched him, and knocked him down — all the while saying ‘Knock that boy out!’ White boy. Cracker. ‘Knock that white boy out. He lived.
The Hudson Reporter published an account of a a white man in Hoboken who was “struck once on the left side of his face by a man he could only describe as African-American and 5 feet 10 inches tall, said the police report. Another man was with the alleged perpetrator. The victim fell to the ground, and apparently asked his attacker why he had assaulted him, to which the assailant only said, “What are you going to do about it?” He lived.
In Waynesboro, Virginia, five black people and one white woman have been charged with abducting and killing police captain Kevin Quick.
In Chicago, three black people tried to rob an off duty police officer. The video shows them approaching the cop and pulling a gun as he pumped gas. He turned over his wallet with one hand, and with the other, pulled his gun and shot the assailant in the face. He died.
Meanwhile, at Black History Forums around the country, many spoke of the recent conviction of the white man Michael Dunn in the killing of black teenager Jordan Davis for playing his music too loudly.
The liberal stalwart Salon web site summed the anger at white violence towards black people: “Michael Dunn and open season on black teenagers: The onslaught of white murder.”
