And it has happened before, including the daughter of the local sheriff.

The newspapers and TV news reported that Traveshia Banks was a part of a large group of “suspicious teenagers” who, at “random,” attacked a senior citizen while he was weeding his garden. The NBC affiliate picks up the story: “all of a sudden I felt a blow to my hip and I was on the ground. I turned around to see what happened and there was a girl standing there laughing.” Concerned citizens saw a group of suspicious teenagers walking down a nearby street and took several photographs with their cell phone, providing investigators with what would later be a crucial piece of evidence. A second victim soon after reported a similar attack. Local news accounts detail how this attack is part of the now-infamous Knockout Game trend being reported in newspapers across the country — if only, in some cases, to dismiss it as a fad. The game is pretty simple: Gather a group of black people. Find a white person. An Asian will do. Older is better. Then punch him or her in the face until they are knocked out, your arms are tired, or the person dies. Local news accounts did not report the “teenagers” were black. Or that more than 99 percent of the people associated with these attacks are black. And most of the victims are not. “Newspapers just won’t talk about how the Knockout Game is an example of racial violence,” said Chuck .. Of Jacksonville. “The same media that has turned our country into the most race conscious place on earth, tries to pretend race is not an issue when it comes to black mob violence. And even though only one person was arrested, many were present. Many took pictures. So this was a mob attack. But the statistics will never show it. That is why this crime is under-reported and mis-reported across the country.” The local NBC affiliate did track down several teenagers familiar with the game, who said it was no big deal: “I’m not gonna say it’s not right and it’s not fun, because it is fun,” said a teen familiar with the game. In many cases across the country, teens are recording the punches and kicks on their cell phones then posting them online. The attacks are often impossible to predict and prevent. “What’s not fun about it? Just go up to a random person slap them and run away,” said another teen. At least one reader agreed that media has no reason to report this another example of racial violence: “I don’t think race has anything to do with it. Most teens are mischievous and get in trouble for fun,” said Kevin Green to the Fort Meyers News Press. Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott “pledged to flush out the cowards perpetrating these acts and make examples of them without delay.” Scott’s daughter was a victim of the Knockout game when she was “sucker-punched” on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University during a Haunted House promotion. This is the guy convicted of “sucker punching” the sheriff’s daughter. Meet Jerome Jospeh. Meanwhile, in New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Seattle, and other cities around the country, the racial violence known as the Knockout Game keeps happening. Earlier this month, a group of black people knocked Phoebe Connolly off of her bike in the nation’s capitol. “One of them reached out and punched me in the face and said Wapow! The whole group of kids laughed,” Connolly told CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.” Another woman was attacked in the same area, probably by the same group of “teenagers.” Bike trails in Washington are the site of frequent and intense black mob violence. I saw your email in an review comment from you on Amazon and wanted to share with you a minor incident that does not rise to the level of being actual reportable material but might interest you as a background factoid:
In the early 1970s, a couple (earnest liberals) who were friends of mine moved to Washington, DC. In their first days there, they took their two young kids for a walk near the mall. The kids were around six years old. As they were walking past Union Station, some older (ten to twelve or so) black kids passed them.
As they passed, one of the black kids sucker punched one of my friend’s children in classic knockout game fashion except that the punch was to the gut. No great physical harm was done, and the assailants immediately fled. I think there may have been only a couple of them. What most amazed me about this was that the little punks were willing to do it with the parents right there. I thought the date on this little story might interest you.

Knockout Game — Media starting to figure out racial violence? Maybe. A little.

Ever so slowly, reporters are starting to figure out a version of black mob violence called the Knockout Game.
The first chip in wall fell in New York, where Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said last week that Orthodox Jews in Crown Heights were the victims of 8 episodes of black mob violence and vandalism. He did not see a pattern. But the New York Post did:
“The way the game is played, one of a number of young blacks decides to show that he can knock down some stranger on the streets, preferably with one punch, as they pass by. Often, some other member of the group records the event so that a video of that “achievement” is put on the Internet to be celebrated.”
So did the CBS affiliate in New York. It reported that Rabbi Yaacov Behrman said “he believes the assaults are part of a disturbing game by some African-American teens.”
Although the same station reported on the Knockout Game just a few days before without mentioning the race of the people involved. In Washington, D.C., the CBS affiliate reported this week that at least two people were recent victims of the Knockout Game.
But the station got it wrong on two counts: One of omission: They do not mention that everyone involved in committing the Knockout Game is black. They also did not report that white people throughout the district are subject of frequent black mob violence on bike trails, mass transit and gay neighborhoods — documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore it.
The other error is of commission: They called it “new.” Which it is not.
WND has documented hundreds of examples of the Knockout Game around the country over the last two years. Including several stories from Washington: Knockout Game a mystery to DC police and Post. Not to WND readers.
“It’s only new if you have been aggressively ignoring the epidemic of black mob violence around the country,” said Sherry Godfrey, of Springfield, Missouri. “But it happened to my son and I had no idea it was happening around the country until I researched it and found the book White Girl Bleed a Lot.”
For reporters willing to look, hundreds of examples are easy to find. A smattering:
In Hoboken, three black people punched a homeless person in September. He died. Not too much different from an earlier episode in Syracuse, where a black mob killed Michael Daniels in May.
In August in Lansing, several black people tried to play the Knockout Game with a twist: They used a taser. It misfired. The victims gun did not. He wounded his attacker, but stopped fired after the Knockout Artist begged for mercy.
In January, several members of the University of Alabama national championship football team attacked two students in what many call the Knockout Game.
At the University of Illinois in Champaign, the game has a different name: Polar Bear Hunting. But with dozens of examples, including a local TV reporter, the black mobs play by the same rules: Find a defenseless white or Asian person, and punch them in the face until your arms are tired. Or they are knocked out. Or dead.
In Chicago last year, two black people killed a Mexican immigrant and grandfather as he was collecting cans in a downtown alley. The local press had trouble talking about the race of the perpetrators, but Mexican national news did not:Top 100 Black Mob Violence Videos #87: Spanish edition.
CNN however, was eager to report that the families of the black people arrested and later convicted of the crime after posting it on Facebook, were good boys who were just playing a “prank that got out of hand.”
In St. Cloud, Minn., a car full of black people came upon a college student in an alley walking two girls home from the library. The car screeched to a stop, one man got out, and hit 20-year old Colton Gleason in the face. He died. His attacker was convicted earlier this year after they jury rejected his defense that Colton and the two female college students he was walking home actually their car.
In March of this year, six black people were convicted in the stabbing death of Matthew Chew in New London, Connecticut. The headline tells the story:25-year-old victim loses Knockout Game
In Pittsburgh last year, several black people were caught on video punching a teacher in the face as they passed each other in an alley. That happened twice: Earlier that year, another teacher was almost killed as he slipped and fell in traffic while fleeing the Knockout Game, on video.
Last year in Meriden, Conn., DeAndre Felton and his 10 of his friends thought they found an easy mark for a bit of the old Knockout Game. They chose the wrong guy: He pulled a knife and killed DeAndre and wounded one other attacker. The attackers’ parents said their children were innocent, just like Trayvon.
In St. Louis earlier this year, a black person was sentenced to life for the Knockout Game death of a 72-year old Vietnamese immigrant. In St. Louis alone, a judge said one person was responsible for 300 episodes of the Knockout Game.
In Oklahoma earlier this year, an accused killer of the Australian college student Chris Lane tweeted that he was “playing golf” and hitting “woods” prior to the murder earlier this month. Woods is short for “peckerwoods:” White people. The Knockout Game. He said he did that five times since the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the death of Trayvon Martin. Anyone looking at the hundreds and hundreds of examples — many on video — knows this: The victims can be white. Or Asian. Or women. Or homosexual. But this much they have in common: All of attackers in the Knockout Game are black.
St. Louis writer, activist and boxing coach talks about the Knockout Game in his video blog. He says police ignore many Knockout Game assaults because they make the city look bad. The perpetrators are black and the victims are not, he says. But the boxing coach knows why:
“Most of the people who get beat up are vegans, gays, artists, non-violent types,” he says. “Many are kids from the suburbs or recent immigrants. People who are not prepared to defend themselves. There are white neighborhoods — blue collar, middle class neighborhoods — where these folks will not go because they know that people there are willing to defend themselves.”
“On Monday April 23rd, 2012 an elderly lady was attacked by a group of teenagers at the bus stop on Grand and Page. There has been no media coverage of this event. I have met several victims and the story is always the same going back to 2005.”
Finally, this week, it all got too much for Greta Van Sustern of Fox News. She did an “off the record” commentary, where she belled the cat and talked about “young African American teenagers viciously and gratuitously attacking a random victim — a teacher — in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”
Greta gets points for identifying the attackers, but the victim was not random: He was white. Greta continues with her description of the Knockout Game then her commentary took a strange twist: She appealed to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for help in stopping this racial violence.
Totally ignoring the role Sharpton had in encouraging racial violence when in 1991 he was involved in three days of black mob violence directed at Jews in Crown Heights. “I beg of Reverend Jesse Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton and even President Obama to step up right now and speak out,” said Sustern. Maybe they can have a beer summit.
Some people call it the Knockout Game. The CBS affiliate in New York has different name for it: Teenage “prank.”
Whatever the term, Ralph Santiago is dead — one of three men who recently died or suffered permanent brain damage from what police call unprovoked assaults. But what others say are part of a nationwide pattern racial violence.
The rules of the Knockout Game — or the teenage prank — are same: Start with a group of black people. Find a white person. Punch him in the face. Don’t stop until the person is knocked out or your arms get tired. Or the person is dead.
Local media refuses to identify how widespread these attacks are. And how the perpetrators are mobs of black people. But the phenomenon is documented in White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence and how the media ignore it.
The teenage prank on Santiago took place September 10, but the real damage was done in an identical attack 27 years ago. A group of black people stalked and beat Santiago near his Bronx home, leaving this father, gymnast and artist with brain damage; unable to do anything but wander the streets in a permanent fog.
Even so, the 46-year old Santiago was a happy man. A religious man. But when he was on the streets, a vulnerable man.
That is what three black people from Jersey City who arrived in Hoboken via the Light Rail discovered that afternoon. The CBS affiliate provides a few details:
“Santiago was followed by the three teens while walking on 3rd Street between Adams and Jefferson Streets in Hoboken on Sept. 10 when one of the juveniles threw a punch at Santiago’s head in what detectives believe was a game of “knockout.”
Santiago then collapsed onto the fence, wedging his neck between two iron fence posts, where he died, the prosecutor said.”
The alleged perpetrators turned themselves in when a video of them surfaced after the attack. They are in custody and charged with murder.
Ten days before that, Jesse Downs was heading to a convenience store near his home in the suburbs of Boston when he came upon a group of black people in the middle of the afternoon. Downs had left work early to get a head start on the Labor Day weekend. His girlfriend, Melissa Merrill, told the Eagle Tribune she just happened to be driving by when she saw Downs sitting on the curb, covered in blood.
“He kept asking me, ‘Why did they jump me?’” Merrill said of how Downs reacted immediately after the attack. “He still had his money and paycheck on him. They didn’t touch it.
“They attacked him right in broad daylight, in the middle of the sidewalk,” Merrill said. “They jumped him from behind and beat him in his head for no reason.”
WHDH reports the the suspects were “hitting (the victim) in the face and head.” And that one of the suspects “…slammed him on his head on the pavement.”
After three brain surgeries, Downs is still in the hospital, unresponsive. His survival is still in question. Two men have been charged with assault and witness intimidation.
Last weekend, in Syracuse, Jim Gifford was beginning his Saturday the way he started every day: He walked to the local 7-11 for a newspaper, donuts, coffee and a can of soup. At 6:08 a.m., the 70-year old Gifford was confronted by “five or six men” in their 20’s.
“Award winning columnist Sean Kirst” of the local paper reports: “Two of them began striking and kicking Gifford. The beating continued after he fell to the ground.”
Kirst quotes the local police as saying it “is too early to describe it as an example of the “knockout game,” a chilling national trend involving anonymous attacks.”
Earlier this week, police arrested Romeo Williams and charged him with assault. Williams had a pending felony weapons charge outstanding. According to Syracuse.com:
At a press conference before Williams’ arraignment, Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said Williams celebrated inside the convenience store after he knocked Gifford unconscious. He continued beating the unconscious man after the brief celebration, according to police.
The papers presents lots of details save two: The assailants were black. No news about what, if any, charges the others at the attack will face.
Kirst did remind his readers that a similar attack took place in Syracuse last spring. Curiously, he reported that two people were arrested, though as many as a dozen black people were present at that attack where a 51-year old man died.
