Letter from a subversive teacher.

March 4, 2015 — Leave a comment

Dear Colin,

I’m teaching junior high now. (Whew!) Well, my sixth month in, I called a black mom for support with her little darling. She drove her state-owned vehicle  over and YELLED at me, and now I’m being asked to apologize….

On the other hand, after last week’s Black History assembly in which they did a number ending with “Hands up, don’t shoot, black lives matter,” I had some 7th graders read an article on white slavery.

Some surprise from the students, but some “got it” and didn’t like the fact that Latinos and blacks got extra scores on their SAT’s for their ethnicity.

Baby steps.
