Racism:
The systematic subordination of members of targeted racial groups who have relatively little social power in the United States (Blacks, Latino/as, Native Americans, and Asians), by the members of the agent racial group who have relatively more social power (Whites). The subordination is supported by the actions of individuals, cultural norms and values, and the institutional structures and practices of society.
Individual Racism:
The beliefs, attitudes, and actions of individuals that support or perpetuate racism. Individual racism can occur at both an unconscious and conscious level, and can be both active and passive. Examples include telling a racist joke, using a racial epithet, or believing in the inherent superiority of whites.
Active Racism:
Actions which have as their stated or explicit goal the maintenance of the system of racism and the oppression of those in the targeted racial groups. People who participate in active racism advocate the continued subjugation of members of the targeted groups and protection of “the rights” of members of the agent group. These goals are often supported by a belief in the inferiority of people of color and the superiority of white people, culture, and values.
Passive Racism:
Beliefs, attitudes, and actions that contribute to the maintenance of racism, without openly advocating violence or oppression. The conscious or unconscious maintenance of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that support the system of racism, racial prejudice and racial dominance.
Cultural Racism: Those aspects of society that overtly and covertly attribute value and normality to white people and Whiteness, and devalue, stereotype, and label people of color as “other”, different, less than, or render them invisible. Examples of these norms include defining white skin tones as nude or flesh colored, having a future time orientation, emphasizing individualism as opposed to a more collective ideology, defining one form of English as standard, and identifying only Whites as great writers or composers.
Institutional Racism:
The network of institutional structures, policies, and practices that create advantages and benefits for Whites, and discrimination, oppression, and disadvantages for people from targeted racial groups. The advantages created for Whites are often invisible to them, or are considered “rights” available to everyone as opposed to “privileges” awarded to only some individuals and groups.

Race
A pseudobiological category that distinguishes people based on physical characteristics (e.g., skin color, body shape/size, facial features, hair texture). People of one race can vary in terms of ethnicity and culture.
Ethnicity
A group whose members share a common history and origin, as well as commonalities in terms of factors such as nationality, religion, and cultural activities.
Culture
The way of life of a group of people including the shared values, beliefs, behaviors, family roles, social relationships, verbal and nonverbal communication styles, orientation to authority, as well as preferences and expressions (art, music, food). “What everybody knows that everybody else knows.”
Acculturation
A dynamic process that occurs when members of one culture (culture of origin) come into contact with another culture (host/dominant culture) over a long period of time. The process involves exposure to, reaction to, and possible adoptions of aspects of the other groups culture. Adapting to the characteristics of the larger or dominant culture, while retaining some of one’s unique cultural traits.
Assimilation
The process of giving up connections to and aspects of one’s culture of origin and blending in with the host/dominant culture. Also, the wholesale adoption of the dominant culture at the expense of the original culture.
Prejudice
An attitude or opinion that is held in the absence of (or despite) full information. Typically it is negative in nature and based on faulty, distorted or unsubstantiated information that is over generalized and relatively in-flexible. Prejudices can be conscious or relatively unconscious.
Oppression
Treatment of a group of people within a society that results in the systematic denial of equal access to civil rights, freedoms, and power within that society. It involves a devaluing and non-acceptance of the target group and can be manifested economically, politically, socially, and/or psychologically. Individuals, through their values and behavior, can collude with a system of oppression which contributes to its maintenance in a society.
Equality
“In any given circumstances, people who are the same in those respects relevant to how they are treated in those circumstances should receive the same treatment” (p. 45). Equality defined in this way, looks at the individual and the circumstances surrounding him or her. It does not focus on group differences based on categories such as race, sex, social class, and ethnicity. This view is one of assimilation because it assumes that individuals, once socialized into society, have the right “to do anything they want, to choose their own lives and not be hampered by traditional expectations and stereotypes” (Young, 1990, p. 157).
Equity
“…. deals with difference and takes into consideration the fact that this society has many groups in it who have not always been given equal treatment and/or have not had a level field on which to play. These groups have been frequently made to feel inferior to those in the mainstream and some have been oppressed. To achieve equity, according to Young (1990), “Social policy should sometimes accord special treatment to groups” (p. 158). Thus, the concept of equity provides a case for unequal treatment for those who have been disadvantaged over time. It can provide compensatory kinds of treatment, offering it in the form of special programs and benefits for those who have been discriminated against and are in need of opportunity.”
Equitable Access
Equitable access provides groups of people access to resources, services and programs that would not otherwise be available to them due to disadvantages created over time resulting from many factors including marginalization, racism, discrimination, and oppression. In essence, equitable access attempts to create a level playing field between the have and have nots.

In Ann Arbor, our black population is about 10% but the Board of Education is closer to 30 or even 40% black.
As a result, AA does not have a Gifted and Talented program in any of the schools. But of course Detroit, which is 100% black does.
Why? Well it is racist and the B of E assumes it will be used to track black students into slow moving classes.
I am racially mixed but considered black. My husband is white and my children are phenotypically white.
Because I have white children, I can assure you that the goal of many black educators is to flat out DENY white and asian children an education as a means of “narrowing the achievement gap.” .
I had to fight tooth and nail to get my kids in classes that would challenge them.
I was on a committee, as a non-white parent, to enact advanced classes and it was horrible.
All of the teacher reps were black and we were constantly accused of being racist.
(Interestingly, the black teaches thought that I was Asian. When they learned that I was black and had been educated in all black segregated schools in Louisiana, they softened their tone a little.)
Affirmative Action has to go. It is the reason that a small segment of society is dictating the agenda for the majority. There should be lawsuits over this. Affirmative Action is legislated discrimination just as Jim Crow was legislated.
xx
From Colin:
Tons of stuff on this topic in Don’t Make the Black Kids Angry. Hope you get a chance to check it out.
One of my favorite quotes from Don’t Make the Black Kids Angry comes from Philadelphia. The local newspapers was reporting on the official outrage that followed the publication of a story called Being White in Philly. ”
The article was seen as “dwelling on negative experiences that whites had with blacks that often fit into racial stereotypes.”
There’s a lot of that going around. Here’s one more from Florida.
Colin,
I graduated in 2013. It started from six grades on up to ninth grade.
But I’ll just talk about what happened in high school because that’s the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It all started with my first day going to high school. I was waiting to take the bus. When I got on the bus it was very loud the black teens would yell out profanity on the top of their lungs.
I wanted to sit in the front of the bus but there were no seats so I had to sit in the back. A blonde haired white girl had got on the bus from the next bus stop. These black boys had started flirting with her she was a fresh man I know this because she was in some of my classes.
She was very uncomfortable with the black teens flirting with her. One of the black teens flirting with her was coming on to her very strongly.
She told him that she had a boy friend already. He had gotten really mad about that and started spiting on the floor of the bus yelling out on the top of his lungs at the girl saying you racist bitch!!!
You just don’t like me because I’m black!!!! then he said to the girl fuck you you racist bitch!!!! then he flipped her a bird 6 inches from her face.
I was just looking over that way they saw me and told me to turn around and mind my own business. There were about 5 of them and some of them were a lot bigger and older than me. I did as they said out of fear then one of them spit in my hair a big goober.
They had the whole back of the bus laughing at me. Teens from the back of the bus started throwing balls of papers at me. They started yelling at me telling me don’t be a weak coward ass white boy and fight!!! They just wanted to see a fight so they could laugh some more.
Most of the bus was black and Latina with 10% white. I was in ESE classes. ESE is classes for people who are academically behind. I was dyslexic at the time and was reading at a fourth grade reading level. The black kids found out about this and started telling most of the kids in the school about how I could not read.
In every class they laughed at me picked on me told me I was a retard told me to go kill myself. They would spit on me and when I told the teachers that they did these things to me the teachers told me if I had a problem go talk to the principal or the deputy of the school and that they could not do anything about it.
So I did just that the principle or deputy would pull the bullies aside and talk to them none of them ever got in trouble only talked to. I had gone to the deputy many times because he said if they ever mess with me go to him. There were these three boys who would pick on me more than the rest of the ghetto kids in that school.
I was pick on by 20 different boys all of them either black or Latina But these three boys were the worst. One of the bullies was a Spanish boy and the other two were black. they started making fun of me telling people that I was the boy in their class that could not read and that I was a retard. As I would walk down the hall I would have black and Latina boys and girls I did not know come up to me and laugh at me and say are you that retard white guy who cannot read.
The three boys that bullied me started punching and kicking and pushing me to the ground. It got to the point I knew I had enough. So I went to the deputy and told him that they were hitting me. But the three boys were really smart and had made up a story that I was gay and that I was trying to kiss them so they pushed me away from them to keep me from kissing them.
The deputy believed their story and told me I was sexually harassing them. I had told the deputy that the three boys were lying and that they made up the story because they knew I had enough of their bullying and that I was going to tell of them. The three bullies even had their parents call the school and say I was sexually harassing their sons.
The principal had called me in his office the next day and he told me that he had very angry parents call him and tell him I was trying to kiss their boys. The bullying only got worst they started telling people at school that I was the boy who was chasing them trying to kiss them. 99% of the kids who bullied me was black and Latina.
I was so afraid of being bullied that I started skipping classes and hiding in the bath room all day. The teachers started catching on that they were missing a student. The principal had called me to his office and told me that I could not be skipping anymore classes. It was not very long after that I was taken out of public school and placed in a private school.
At private school none of the kids picked on me some of them were their because they were bullied as well. The private school was all white kids and it was like heaven no thugs no bullies and teachers had not gave up on teaching. I had got the one on one help I needed. I had graduated from that private school with a smile on my face I am very proud of the school I had graduated from.
Knockout Game: This form of black crime never went away. This time on teachers.
Knockout Game: This form of black crime never went away. Though the New York Times and tons of others said it never existed in the first place. this time on teachers.

A video and some links to a story coming up on American Thinker.
Black mob violence around the country while the President spoke of black victimization in Selma.
The President may have celebrated black victimization at his recent speech in Selma, but around the rest of the country black people were making the successful transition from victim to predator.
With much of the black mob violence and black on white crime on video. Here is a smattering from around the country that happened with a day of the President’s speech:
At Chuck E. Cheese outside of Cleveland, a large group of black people attending a birthday party said they were unhappy that one of the machines was not working. So they attacked the staff, sending five to the hospital with “serious” injuries, including a teenager girl who was knocked unconscious.
This is the latest is a series of recent episodes of black mob violence in Chuck E. Cheese stores around the country, including Long Island, Florida, South Carolina, St. Louis, Dearborn, California, Memphis, Commack, Beaumont and other places.
The videos from Albany tell a story of regular and large scale black mob violence, the latest the night before the President’s Selma speech. The rap group Migos was in town at the Armory and six people were stabbed, at least one person was robbed, and from the stage the Migos moderated — and encouraged — the large fight taking place in front of them.
“They are giving them hell now,” said a member of the group, gleefully, while chairs and knives and fists flew.
City officials have tried to stop the Armory from having live entertainment because of the predictable violence, but they have not been successful.
In Queens, three people were slashed Friday with broken bottles at a Chedda Da Connect concert. The Daily News reports more people were injured in the fighting and stabbing but they refused medical attention.
In Philadelphia, two days after two black people were arrested for the murder of a police officer, and one day before the President’s speech in Selma, a large group of black people were fighting, shooting guns and creating mayhem outside of a night club. Three people were injured, with one shot. Police fired on a car after it they say it was trying to run them over as it escaped from the scene of the violence.
In Kalamazoo, one man was shot after a large group of black people were creating violence, but he refused to cooperate with the police.
In San Bernardino, California, a large fight involving two black motorcycle clubs left three people dead and four wounded. The fight later continued in the parking lot of the local hospital.
Large scale black mob violence is also a regular feature of life in Rochester, New York. From the Lilac Festival to the Liberty Pole, Frederick Douglass High School to movie theaters, residents are resigned to the racial chaos. The latest came during a basketball game the night before the President’s speech. Police had to use pepper spray to break up a large disturbance inside the Blue Cross Arena. The fighting and mayhem continued outside at the newly constructed Transit Center, also the scene of regular black mob violence, often on video.
In Houston, the night before the President’s speech, a championship woman’s basketball game was cancelled midway through the contest after a large episode of black mob violence — involving black players and cheerleaders from Southern and Texas Southern Universities.
A few days before that, a similar case of black mob violence broke out at a game between two Tuskegee and Albany State. But this mayhem was limited to the cheerleaders of the black colleges. Cheerleaders and dancers from both schools were banned from the rest of the tournament.
In Senatobia, Mississippi,The night before the President’s speech, police responding to “an explosive situation” involving a “wall-to-wal” group of black people were accused of being too rough with the people who did not obey their orders to leave.
Black reporter Les Smith said he was not surprised by the mayhem that ensued in Senatobi, saying it was “bound to be volatile,” because of dozens of “teens” who were “looking to extend the fun into late night.”
Even so, two mothers said their sons were treated with excessive force when they were arrested that night and other nights all because, said a friend, “for no reason.”
On a Greyhound bus bound for Columbus, Ohio three days before the President’s speech, a black woman attacked a state trooper, pushing her down the steps and off the bus, then straddling her and punching her in the face. Other passengers came to the aid of the female trooper. All on video.
The evening of the President’s speech, several black people were arrested for kidnapping and home invasion robbery in Dayton. One of the suspects was in the 17th day of his probation following his conviction for armed robbery. ““There was so much blood at that point I didn’t know what was happening,” one of the victims told the WHIO news. “I was trying to just give them what they wanted.”
In a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C. the night before the President’s speech: “Two teenagers wer injured and two vehicles damaged when a large fight broke out at Potomac Mills Mall,” said the Sun Gazette newspaper. None of the victims or suspects cooperated with police.
Several white people objected to others who noted that all the people involved in that violence and similar episodes at that mall and other area malls were black. They said white kids do it too. None, however, supplied any links or specifics.
Many of the examples of black mob violence in suburban D.C. malls are documented in that scintillating best seller, Don’t Make the Black Kids Angry: The hoax of black victimization and those who enable it.
The day of the President’s speech in Panama, Florida, a group of black people attacked Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott — a Heisman candidate — and two of his team mates. Bloody pictures and a video soon filled the internet, including one picture of a group of self-proclaimed thugs bragging about the assault on Twitter.
Prescott and his crew were in Panama for Spring break, attending a hip hip concert by Waka Flocka, which cancelled their upcoming concert at the University of Oklahoma because of a racist fraternity.
And the day before the President’s speech, a Chicago area school principal was still trying to explain to local and national media why white and Asian students were removed from a school assembly about “Black Lives Matter,” where the remaining black students learned they are victims of white racism and violence, all the time, everywhere, and that explains everything.
