Colin,
After reading your article in American Thinker, then looking around at other writings of yours, I had to send a kudos to you.
I’ll share 3 quick experiences if you don’t mind.
I used to volunteer at a transitional housing program for single parent homeless people. Teaching “life skills” at all levels to hopefully prevent the kids from following in their parents footsteps was one of the things I did. Sometimes it even involved helping with their homework.
Fine. However, getting several youth together in something close to a classroom environment will end up in some unruly behavior. And two kids were usually the instigators of such things.
After stopping class saying “maybe the girl next to you would like to hear what I’m saying. Stay quiet or I’m sending you out” was met with “.. you only say that to me because I’m black” I assured him his outward actions were a result of his attitude and not color. But if he wanted to use the crutch of his color, I have a garage full of them. (I’m paraplegic) He wouldn’t come to my class afterwards.
Same program, different kids. I sat down to teach math and one girl said to another “just what we don’t need. Another white boy teaching us white math”. Both girls were black.
A majority of families receiving help from this organization are black, but not a single volunteer helping out is. I wonder why that is. I quit volunteering after 4 years of it.
Recently, while at an intersection by a middle school, 6 girls, 4 black, one white, one asian, were waiting at the crosswalk. 3 of the 4 blacks walked against the light. The asian said “it’s not our time to go”, to which one of the 3 turned and said “I don’t gotta follow no whiteman rules” Speaks volumes.
