Letter from Cincinnati
I became disabled when on Christmas day as I was walking to the store in Cincinnati, 2013. I went out of my way to take a safer route by music Hall. I tossed Liberty Ave. When a well dressed smiling black man extended his hand out to me and said ” I just want to shake your hand and wish you a merry Christmas. ” I tightened up on my purse. He grabbed the handle and swung me into the side of a brick building which snapped my spine and broke my shoulders. He yanked hard on the purse which tore the rotator cuffs and all the muscles in my arms.
I was screaming for help the whole time. Nobody responded. I am bedridden unable to walk. I am in constant pain, dependent on caregivers, lost my career I loved restoring historical buildings as an architect and landscape architect. I get around in a power chair. I spent 17 years restoring a large house overlooking the Ohio River, built in 1840, had secret rooms and tunnels, was part of the underground railroad where a German Catholic congregation harbored fugitive slaves and helped them on to freedom in Canada.
My ancestors were part of that congregation who risked prison sentences to harbor runaway slaves. The Cincinnati Freedom Museum would send students to your and document the house and garden my sons and I rebuilt. It is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The summer prior to the purse snatching, I was walking down Court St. I broad daylight when a large black young woman was following close behind me. She yelled out ” White B*tch!” The punched me in the head, knocked me out, I fell to the sidewalk.
So many other physical attacks by blacks targeting me randomly. My sister at 13 years old was raped by a 14 year old black friend she used to ride bikes with. He busted out her front teeth. In 1979, I was walking to my apartment on Park Ave. A gentrified historic neighborhood from Eden Park. A black man in a raggedy Cadillac jumped out and grabbed me with a gun to my head and tried to force me into the car. I used all my strength to get free and run to pedestrians in the distance.
I was 6 months pregnant! I am poor now, on disability benefits. But I post on Google+ and Facebook your presentations freely, Colin and Jesse. My Google+ is devoted only to victims of black on white violent crime and I get a lot of black feedback. One said she wished the purse snatcher would have killed my cr*cka *ss. My response is that on a bad day I wish he did too!
