Letter from an 8-year old white child in Detroit.
Colin,
I’m originally from Detroit. As a child I remember visiting my grandmother on the other side of Detroit. My mom and dad would allow us as kids to walk to the park by ourselves. It was a safe neighborhood. And I remember the neighborhood begin to change.
Black people were moving in. Gang signs and graffiti became the norm. Then at about 8 yrs old, I witnessed my first assault. I seen a man get stabbed on that very same street corner my grandmother lived.
My family moved us up north to get away. The rest stayed in Detroit. And time after time, I have had family member be robbed, victimized, shot at and even attacked. All by black people.
I got to watch first hand the city of Detroit fall apart. I was never taught racism. I was always taught to respect all life and cultures. I’m not saying that all black people are bad.
That’s simply not true. But something has happened to the black culture. It has been sabotaged and stolen from them. I truly believe that the powers that be have completely manipulated the black culture into a victim mentality and made them believe they will always be victims.
Black people are so strong and proud. They can be as great as any other race on earth. Buy until they take back their culture and rid themselves the victim mentality, this will only get worse.
