Racial violence might be up. It might be down. Either way we may never know: A new study from the Department of Justice says victims of violent crime often do not call the police.

And if they do, police often do not file crime reports, say local newspapers around the country.

“More than half of the nation’s violent crimes, or nearly 3.4 million violent victimizations per year, went unreported to the police between 2006 and 2010,” said a Justice Department analysis.

That’s 17 million violent crimes off the books in five years.

Some say it is even worse. They point to the experience that cities around America are having with ShotSpotter: An anti-crime technology that features an array of wireless microphones that can pinpoint the location of a gun shot to within 40 feet.

The system is 96 percent accurate.

Using ShotSpotter, the New York Times reports that neighbors called police only 10 percent of the time guns were fired in a high-crime area of San Francisco. In Oakland, 22 percent of gunshots prompted 9-1-1 calls.

The three players were part of a mob of black people that crossed a street to stop and punch a Pitt student.

So he says. So they charged three members of the team with assault.

But two of the players charged with assault are stars on the team. And they will play in the big game against Notre Dame.

What is it with Pittsburgh: A football player was recently killed when he was attacked by a mob of black people.

In Philadelphia, a Temple University social worker says people who riot and loot are just “blowing off some steam.”

 

As the outreach team was being hired and trained during the summer, the phenomenon of flash mobs – large groups of young adults congregating in particular locations – emerged in Philadelphia mainly through the use of social media. Some of the gatherings erupted in violence.

Jones, 26, says he understands the high energy level of youths and the need “to blow off some steam.

It happens so many thousands of times every year, however, it’s not newsworthy enough to report just in itself. He’ll compile it with several more outrageous incidents and report all of them together in a column, as he reported numerous attacks in 80 different cities in his book, “White Girl Bleed A Lot.”

With looting, coupled with attacks now, it looks like he’s going to need an assistant to keep track of everything, because I sense we’re going to see an acceleration in the wake of this monster storm.

DeAndre Felton and his crew had a problem: The mall was closed. The curfew in effect. But they were still high on drugs and wanted to have more fun. So they decided to beat someone up.

Turns out they chose The Wrong Guy.

They had just come from a local park where DeAndre and 15 others beat up two girls, sending one to the hospital with a broken arm.

So DeAndre came up with an increasingly popular idea: In St. Louis they call it the Knockout Game. In Illinois, Polar Bear Hunting.

Regardless of what DeAndre in Meriden, Conn., called it, the rules are the same all over: Find a person who looks defenseless. Then punch him. Or kick him until you get tired or he is knocked out. Or worse. Game over.

DeAndre was part of a pattern of hundreds of examples of black mob violence documented in more than 80 cities revealed in “White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence and how the media ignore it.”

DeAndre knew The Knockout Game was usually pretty safe. For the attacker, that is. In Meriden, victims aren’t likely to carry concealed weapons. Nor do they fight back: As one player said in Philadelphia as his victim begged for mercy: “It’s not our fault you can’t fight.”

So when DeAndre and his gang of eight to 10 left the parking lot in a Meriden mall just a few weeks ago – soon after the park beat-down – he was confident little could go wrong when he told his friends he wanted to “beat someone up.”
