Dear Colin,
Two friends of mine taught in mainly African American populated schools in Massachusetts and Oregon and had great pressure put on them to pass students that were failing due to lack of attendance, discipline and family interest.
The school administrators didn’t want to keep them back due to overcrowding and wanting to make their schools appear better than they are so they are applying great pressure on teachers into graduating illiterate and uneducated youth that wouldn’t test at a 4th grade level, never mind High School.
Disrespect and violence against teachers is a common occurrence and because the students are all juveniles there are minimal if any consequences and the kids know this and it only emboldens their anti-social, threatening and violent behavior. The more kids that are born into welfare families with no father and no incentive for the mother to work, the worse this problem becomes.
I’m tired of hearing how Black students and young men are significantly under represented in magnet schools and over represented in prisons. There are millions of minorities in this country and no other group has this problem which proves the problem lies with the Black community.
Unfortunately their way of dealing with it is to displace blame on everyone else and cry racism without taking any responsibility within their own families and communities to address the problem of multi-generational welfare families being raised by elderly grandmothers, disinterested and often incarcerated young mothers, and no father or even male role model to instill self respect and discipline.
Gang violence is off the charts in inner city neighborhoods and it will not improve until the Black community chooses to do something about it but unfortunately Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson et al would prefer to blame all their problems on racism, even when Black on Black crime is the main cause of death for young men in their neighborhoods.
Hard working middle class and working class families can’t afford to keep supporting this broken system of rewarding irresponsible and ill equipped mothers to have more unwanted babies out of wedlock just to increase their benefits and housing. We also can’t afford to pay for enough police and prisons to deal with the inner city crime that overwhelmingly comes from one demographic.
Most of the people I know (myself included ) struggle to pay our mortgages, healthcare and taxes with no handouts from anyone. This system has been broken for a long time and the entitled need to get off their backsides and work like every other group of citizens of all ethnic backgrounds manage to do without blaming others and playing the victim because everything isn’t handed to them on a platter. They also need to stop having babies they can’t afford and don’t seem to care about raising to be responsible human beings.
Thanks for all the work you do to tell the truth which takes a great deal of courage and tenacity in our current biased and Orwellian media.
