Naturally the press reports are careful not to mention that this is a problem within the black population. There is a different problem going on in the white teen population. It is important not to lose sight of that fact, though the statistics show that the white teen problem is less severe and less far-reaching, and of course takes a different form. None the less, it is important that white parents who notice the wider spread black teen problem not overlook a similar dysfunction plaguing the white teen population.

The news reports showed very little of the violence and mayhem. The second report showed a concerned adult, who is black, offering advise that touches on the core factor: lack of parental oversight. The teens that the man spoke with seemed like excellent young people, teens who have been studying in school and who do have regular, competent adult supervision. The teens who are causing the problems are from the chaotic welfare families. The black teens of KC hear about a black teen gathering, which attracts the good and the bad, and of course the bad ones set the tone.
