Today (July 20th, 2013) C-Span2’s BookTV featured the 2013 Harlem Book Fair held in NYC’s Schomburg Center. Various authors were on stage including Kendall Thomas the co-editor of “Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings That Formed A Movement.” Knowing you are interested in this topic I’m just letting you know this FYI. Maybe you can catch a repeat of his talk or view it on C-Span2/BookTV’s website.

Sorry, I didn’t get this message to you earlier so you could have called, emailed or tweeted questions in for Mr. Kendall if you would have been able.

Also, thank you for giving me that shout out when I did the post comparing you with Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer (very much agree that all three of you are mis-represented as bigots when in reality all you want to do is help people).

Also, FYI- Ms. Geller over at Atlas Shrugs had a recent post that included info on Trayvon Martin’s drug use and an autopsy showing liver damage from a drug called “Lean.” A drug that Martin’s ‘text record” shows he knew about. The ingredients are from certain types of beverages. Geller pointing out that the media and police mis identified the drink Martin had purchased from the store on his way home WAS NOT tea, but another flavored beverage which is used in “Lean.” Along with cough syrup the other ingredient that also gives a sugar and flavor rush to “Lean” is either Jolly Ranchers or…. you guessed it- Skittles. The drug is called poor man’s PCP and causes rage and other behavior that may have affected Martin.

The images of Martin as a 10 year old boy walking home with sweets and a drink is grossly misinformed. This 6 foot plus martial artist who had assaulted others in the past, with a drug using/dealing history and whose own body would show damage from “Lean” consumption (a drug that causes rage and other side effects)… was no innocent child.

Something else to consider- the obsession with the media and government to promote this case as a white-black dynamic. A history lesson-

In the 1800s the case of Plessy versus Ferguson was a Supreme Court Case where someone who was 1/8 (one-eighth) black- an ethnicity known as an Octoroon back then tried to ride in a whites only train car. Homer Plessy was arrested and the Court decided that it was okay to keep segregation as long as “separate but equal” facilities were offered to Plessy.

This became one of the most notorious racial decisions in America and “separate but equal” would have ramifications for almost a century post this decision. It also re-enforced a belief that anyone with “one drop” of African blood was a black person. Today many Americans (of different races- accept this view).

Because of light-skinned people of black ancestry were forced to either “pass” or be forced to consider themselves black for generations…. today many choose to identify with their black ancestry, but do so now out of pride.

Take the black community that will “claim as one of their own” historical figures or contemporary persons who have 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or less African blood as a black person. During Black History Month many Blacks (and Whites) will state how certain celebs, athletes, political figures, scientists, etc are black- even with mixed ancestry including 1/8 or less African blood.

Well, the media kept insisting George was white and this was a white racist murder. George is actually a bilingual multi-ethnic Hispanic. He also has a black African great grandfather. George is 1/8 black. Even when George was referred to as Hispanic it was in the context of being “White Hispanic.” Shouldn’t that be Afro-Hispanic? Acknowledgement of his black roots wouldn’t play into the race narrative the media insists on portraying.

Also, his white German ancestry includes Jewish Germans. George was raised Catholic, but I find it disturbing that many blacks have said virulently anti-Semitic things about George when referring to his white ancestry. When his Hispanic roots were mentioned… negative things were said about him (George) being “Mexican.”

Now with all these comments about George’s mixed-ethnic, multi-racial and inter-faith background taking a hateful turn or his background being ignored (as in he is “black”) for political motives…. why is it that George is the racist in the media opinion and all this hatred thrown at George’s white (German & Jewish), Hispanic and never-mentioned black roots by his enemies is not considered racist?

Every black colleague, friend and former classmate that I asked about the term “cracka” whether it was or was not racist…. ALL OF THEM said that in the black community when a white looking person is called a cracka or cracker… it IS MEANT TO BE A SLUR and meant to insult and is 100% racist. So when Jeantel says it isn’t, that is BS. So were comments about the “gay rapist” angle.

If someone is 1/16 Irish and wants to claim to be a son or daughter of Emerald Isle… or if they are 1/4 or 1/8 black and want to self-identify as African-American then that is okay by me. You see I am an American Indian. We are a racial group that is obsessed with “blood quantum.” I know the US Govt forced that concept on us, but sadly too many American Indians use blood quantum as a way to discriminate against other American Indian people. So, I am empathetic with anyone who wants to identify the way they want to in regard to ethnicity. That’s why I found it so abhorrent with the way the media treated George in regard to his multi-ethnic background.

I am also gay and have been horrified by the rising number of attacks on the gay community by young blacks. Way too many gay neighborhoods have been targets of black flash mobs.

The notion that Martin was helpless against George was ridiculous. Martin was a martial artist, experienced in street fighting, apparently influenced by drugs, he towered over George (MARTIN WAS NOT A TEN YEAR OLD BOY NO MATTER WHAT PHOTOS THE MEDIA KEPT SHOWING) and as the Defense Attorney pointed out… the concrete was a weapon. I have known people (including myself) who have been assaulted where a pavement, asphalt or concrete of a sidewalk, street, parking lot or building floor or wall became a weapon as you are slammed against that surface again or again.

A few more head slams against the sidewalk and George could have either lost consciousness, received brain damage, visual impairment of been killed. When human skulls meet asphalt with extreme force…. THAT IS A WEAPON.

And most importantly… why doesn’t the media discuss the tragedy of black on black violence. The number of law abiding black Americans who are attacked by black thugs and get NO attention or justice because society is afraid to call black criminals on the carpet is inexcusable.
