I just discovered your youtube channel two days ago. I’ve been more enlightened about the black violence problem here in the US. I’ve known about this issue since I was a little kid.
I’m Black and I’ve always been an objective observer of Black behavior. It’s as if we have no governor on our emotional outbursts.
I also teach at a predominantly Black high school and everyday I see violent behavior of all sorts. The liberal school system in which I work also employs liberal school rules. (Or should I say, “the enforcement of the school rules” are very liberal-like).
Our problem as Black people is that we are too soft on black misbehavior and black crime. Here’s an example: The last few days of school, before Christmas break, there were a number of incidents involving food being thrown at other students. ie. cartons of milk, filled water bottles, and raw eggs.
The principal and the security officers tried their best to curtail the students from committing these acts but to no avail. Later, the Principal spoke over the P.A system announcing that the students involved in the behavior would be sent to an alternative school.
Once he made that announcement, several students in my class instantly became school law scholars. They were stating how a principal couldn’t make that decision based on them “throwing food”. They were saying that the offenses needed to be more serious. Some of them were saying that there needed to be some proof of a “pattern of bad behavior”.
So I stopped them all and said, “That’s why this school is the way it is. You don’t care about your own safety enough to support your principal’s decision on getting rid of these hoodlums.” I was shocked at how much support the so called “good” students were giving to their unruly peers.
It’s almost as if they didn’t want the bad students to get expelled because the bad students brought a level of excitement and danger to the school.
Like I said before, 70 percent of the school population is Black. 25 to 30 percent are Hispanic and White. The Hispanics display a better grasp of the English language than the Black students, by far. I teach 3 different courses.
One of my courses has a reading comprehension component. I try to print interesting material for them to read. After reading, they have to answer ten questions about the story. All of my Hispanic students like the material and they answer the questions to a high level of mastery.
Only about a third of my Black students like the material and only about half of them make passing grades on a consistent basis. I even have a couple of Black students who won’t do the assignments at all. Their claim is that it’s too hard.
It’s sort of funny as most of the Black students think of themselves as being smart, but they don’t show it in the classroom.
Now you would think that most of the violence would come from the young Black men, but alas, no. Most of our violent offenders are Black females. Their fights can start on Saturday morning (in their neighborhoods) and will carry on till Monday morning on school grounds….and no one tries to break them up.
All you see are cell phones being held up in record mode documenting the whole fracas. If only they could channel that energy into learning a new language, grasping a new mathematical concept, going to the library, learning how to write computer code, or tutoring other students, then they would see a difference in their school climate…..
But I’ve come to the conclusion that these Black students don’t want to see a difference in their school climate. All they want to see and support (and be a part of) is chaos and confusion. Their actions show it on a daily basis.
Forgive any grammatical or spelling errors as I was in a rush to type this. You can read this on air if you wish, just please don’t say my name.
