Letter from a teacher.
Please keep up your work with public inner-city schools.
It is really bad. The make-up work is definitely a thing, I remember you mentioned it recently in one of your videos.
My rib was broken a month ago by a student who “bear hugged” me-this is a thing where black kids grab someone around the waist, lift them up and throw them to the ground, like the lady at the pool you posted. Thankfully I was not thrown to the ground, instead, I heard my rib crack as the kids ran away (one was wearing a ski mask).
Two weeks ago, a co-worker was knocked out by a student who threw an orange at his head. He served in Vietnam.
Guess you did not hear this on the news….
I submitted a “data binder” (required) to the administration recently that documents behavior, phone calls home, the “whole thing” as you say. All I got back from the boss was “be sure to include make-up work” for the kids who are failing / not showing up. They cannot read or write but this will help them graduate I guess.
Also one thing you could focus on is how teachers are evaluated (often unfairly) for poor performance. I had an “informal evaluation” recently (was not posted yet)… 45 kids rostered to my class, 10 show up at most. During the observation, 3 kids were high, 2 kids who I never saw before showed up, at least 3 kids showed up who did not belong. I had to redirect the entire time instead of teaching.
I hope they don’t throw me under the bus. They have done that before.
Even though I provide documentation of cutting, unexcused absences / lateness, getting high in the hallways / stairwells, fights, violence / threats on teachers… no parents, call home = disconnected phone / full mailbox etc.
Thank you for your work / exposure to what is going on. They do not know how bad it is.
