Dear Colin,
I was born and raised on the Carnival and I have been trying to tell people for years about black violence at the carnival. This isn’t new!! Most festivals, county and state fairs have an “African American Appreciation Day” Where African Americans are admitted into the gates for free.
It is ALWAYS the most violent day of the fair!!! Mob violence runs rampant…they’ll be multiple fights with groups of kids running back and forth down the midway, destroying property, and stealing.
I’ve seen them on numerous occasions tear down concession stands, beat carnival people and patrons, and rob the carnival people blind. You’ll see mobs of black teens all of a sudden running to every concession stand on the midway grabbing the stuffed animals and running.
There is never enough police presence and the violence and chaos is in such abundance that police can’t even take the time to arrest. They just send them on their way and the carnival usually shuts down early. It’s a known fact on the carnival. It goes widely unreported. You may hear about it on local news but never on national media. Most murders that happen at the fairs happen during this day. Although, you’ll never hear about.
I’m glad that someone has finally got wind of this!! At most fairs the other days are usually not as violent…although there are some fairs that are violent everyday…most is usually only on African American Day because it’s free entry into the gate whereas the other days they have to pay to get in.
If it were up to the Carnival owners there would not be African American Days. This celebration is usually put on by the town that the carnival is set up in and the black violence is unreported. They wouldn’t want to tell people the truth!
